“EU-PolarNet 2” Project is Supported by Horizon 2020 Programme

“EU-PolarNet 2” Project is Supported by Horizon 2020 Programme:

“EU-PolarNet 2” Project is supported by Horizon 2020 Programme. ITU is a partner of the project. The project will be coordinated by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Burcu Özsoy at ITU.

Communities and ecosystems subjected to multiple environmental, climatic, cultural and economic pressures, and polar regions truly represent the beginning symbols of climate change. Currently, changes in the Arctic Regions are affecting the welfare of polar residents and many polar communities. In addition, the state of polar systems has a vast impact on the atmosphere, ocean, and soil, including changing the weather pattern in Europe.

This is why the political agenda on polar issues has been increasing across Europe over the past decade, and the European Union is paying attention on science and innovation at high latitudes. Therefore, the coordination of polar research actions in Europe needs to be further improved to provide evidence-based advice to the decision-makers.

This should include the continued participation of all relevant stakeholders to develop interdisciplinary and international projects to tackle socially relevant problems linked to the polar regions.

The “EU-PolarNet 2” project will provide a coordination platform to jointly develop strategies to increase the European Polar Research action and its contribution to policy-making processes. When the project ends, the experience gained, the tools developed to facilitate better coordination and joint design of established network and pole research activities will be transferred to the European Pole Coordination Office, which will be maintained. The "EU-PolarNet 2" Project consortium consists of 25 partners representing polar research programs and activities of all European and associated countries. The project will last 4 years. The total budget of the project is 3.299.253,75 Euro, ITU’s budget is 45.000 Euro.
