HORİZON 2020

The Horizon 2020 Program is the EU's new Research and Innovation Framework Program, which will be in effect between 2014-2020, aiming at the global competitiveness of Europe with a budget of approximately 72.5 billion Euros.

With the aim of increasing the impact of the activities carried out within the scope of R&D in the EU in Horizon 2020, it aims to collect all research and innovative programs carried out in the Union under a holistic system for the years 2014-2020.

It will cover all of the program's funding sources for research and innovation in Horizon 2020: Framework Programs for Research and Technology Development (FP), Competitiveness and Innovation Program (CIP), and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).

The Horizon 2020 Program is structured under three priority areas: Scientific Excellence, Industrial Leadership and Competitiveness, and Solutions to Social Challenges.

The Field of Scientific Excellence includes Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowships, European Research Council, Future and Emerging Technologies and Research Infrastructures.

In the field of Industrial Leadership, 6 billion Euros of the 13.7 billion Euros of the budget determined for the leadership in the field of Facilitating and Industrial Technologies, Information and Communication Technologies, Photonics, Micro and Nanoelectricity, Nanotechnology, Advanced Materials, Advanced Manufacturing and Process Technologies and Biotechnology are reserved for the fields.

Easier access to venture capital and support areas for SMEs are also under the title of Industrial Leadership.

There are nine thematic areas under the title of Solutions to Social Challenges. These areas are:

  1. Health, demographic change and wellbeing
  2. Food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, marine and maritime and inland water research and the bioeconomy
  3. Secure, clean and efficient energy
  4. Smart, green and integrated transport
  5. Climate action, environment, resource efficiency and raw materials
  6. Europe in a changing world - inclusive, innovative and reflective societies
  7. Secure societies - protecting freedom and security of Europe and its citizens
  8. Crossing Challenges Area
  9. Innovation in SMEs
