Horizon 2020-European Union Project entitled “Strengthening synergies between and in the area of human Factors towards achieving more Efficient and resilient MODE of transportation” (SAFEMODE), which was applied from Istanbul Technical University Faculty of Maritime Affairs, Department of Marine Transport Management Engineering was accepted. Associate Professor Ozcan Arslan is the ITU’s coordinator of the project. The project is planned to last 36 months and is an innovative project consisting of 34 partners in total, which will work jointly with the maritime and aviation sector.
The human factor is one of the most important causes of accidents in the Marine and aviation sector. Increased automation, remotely operated ships and aircraft, and human-machine interaction also pose new and not yet fully seated risks in the entire transport sector. For this reason, the effects of the human factor on safety will become even more pronounced in the future. The challenges are common for sea and air transport, and therefore the two sectors will collaborate with an interdisciplinary approach to human factor management and risk modeling in the SAFEMODE project. This project will also contribute to the implementation of safety studies in the Maritime and aviation sector.
