Smart Cholesterol-Mopping Polymer Nanoparticles

The Project Smart Cholesterol-Mopping Polymer Nanoparticles in Niemann-Pick Disease Type C – NanoMops " was Supported under the Horizon 2020 Programme:

Dr. Antonino Puglisi's research project proposal under the supervision Professor Yusuf Yağcı entitled “Smart Cholesterol-Mopping Polymer Nanoparticles in Niemann-Pick Disease Type C – NanoMops " was deemed eligible to be supported by the European Union Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska Curie Individual Fellowships 2017 call for an evaluation rating of 96.40%. In this project, researchers will try to obtain intelligent polymeric nanotanecics for use in the treatment of the disease, also known as “children's Alzheimer's”, which is genetically caused by the accumulation of cholesterol in the brain, seen in 1 in 100,000 people in Europe.

The 2-year project, with a total budget of 145,845 Euro, is expected to create national and international cooperation and contribute to increasing sensitivity to this disease in society as well as its industrial impact.

Dr.  Puglisi after completing his doctorate at the University of Catania in Italy in 2001, and postdoctoral research at the Universities of Greenwich and Sussex in England, he worked at the University of Oxford “spin-off” company “Nanopore Technologies Ltd” for a period of 4 years to create a technological platform continued their research on DNA sequences.
